My best stone artifact is undoubtedly this discoidal. Nearly 5" in diameter and almost 2 1/2" thick it is superbly crafted and was undoubtedly a treasured item, probably communal property rather than belonging to a single individual. I have examined several discoidals from Fayette County, but few approach this one in size and none in quality. Discoidals were game stones that were rolled on the ground and this one shows extensive use and handling wear. I found this artifact west of Ramsey in Fayette County, IL.
