This is undoubtedly the finest piece of flint I have ever, or will ever find. According to Gregory Perino it is an Early Ovoid or Tang Knife that is at least Early Archaic and possibly Paleo in age. Made from Blair Chert, and the source of this flint is in far southern Illinois. It is 5 1/2" long and shows no evidence of use or resharpening. The source of this flint is a considerable distance away in Indiana. The fact that it is in unused condition and made from an exotic material makes me think it may possibly be a status symbol or ceramonial object that had been buried with an important person. This type of knife is extremely rare and is occasionally mistaken for a type of Turkeytail Point. I found this point north of Brownstown in 1979.
