The bluff edges of the Kaskaskia and the larger creeks contain numerous sites from all time periods. It has been my experience that the further back from the bluff edges the more likely one is to find Early Archaic material. I have found a couple of fairly large camp sites on small creeks with both Archaic and Woodland material, but usually the smaller streams and their headwaters have small sites, often on low hills or ridges. I think these may represent hunting camps or perhaps kill sites as they are often located where two ecotypes merged (i.e. woodland and grassland) creating an edge type environment that would make for ideal hunting grounds. Many of my "nicer" finds have come from these types of sites, a result, I think, of them having been lost during the hunt rather than used up and discarded as they usually are on habitation sites. In addition. to points, I have found several 3/4 grooved axes, a number of celts, one unfinished bannerstone and a couple of broken banners.
